Year Founded
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation was originally established in 1949 as the Community Welfare Foundation of Cedar Rapids. In 1992, it became a public organization and changed its name to the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
Leadership
The Community Foundation is led by our President & CEO, Karla Twedt-Ball. We are governed by a board of directors that is representative of the community.
Assets and Number of Funds
The Community Foundation currently manages assets in excess of $212 million and administers 1,050 charitable funds.
Grants
Through Community Foundation grantmaking programs and donor funds, $11 million was granted to 653 nonprofit organizations in 2023. Since becoming a public foundation in 1992, the Community Foundation has distributed more than $194 million in grants.
Gifts We Accept
The Community Foundation accepts gifts of cash and appreciated assets, cryptocurrency, real estate, bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and gifts designated through a life insurance policy, IRA or 401(k) plan.
Tax Benefits
Community Foundation donors receive full tax benefits including access to Endow Iowa tax credits, a 25% Iowa tax credit in addition to normal federal charitable income tax deductions for certain charitable gifts.
Grantmaking Priorities
The Community Foundation’s grantmaking program invests in innovation, sustainability and capacity building across the spectrum of the entire nonprofit sector including education, health and human services, arts and culture, environment and public benefit.
